Ocean Beach, and San Diego in general, has a plethora of street art around the area. They grace store walls, restaurants, even electrical transformers along city streets. Some are beautiful, others I don’t quite understand, but they do add some welcome color to everyday scenery. There is one striking portrait a few blocks from where I live. At first sight, I was immediately intrigued. Was the subject modeled after an actual person? Someone’s friend? Girlfriend? Long-lost love? I wondered where she might have come from and how she ended up here. Even with the youthful flowers framing her, the seriousness of her expression is hard to overlook. I can think of countless stories for this gypsy lady, but I’m just thankful her artist chose this wall.
